We are excited to announce that UA’s Part-Time faculty membership has voted to ratify a new 4-year Collective Bargaining Agreement, to take effect July 1, 2025.
Our bargaining process, starting in early February, was amicable and efficient. Our United Academics team worked hard to secure raises that keep wages competitive, to add a new benefit intended to help part-time faculty save for retirement, and retain benefits won in previous negotiations. The progressive raises in year four are a flat dollar amount to give a greater percent increase to Lecturer I’s, who may not be eligible for the new retirement match contribution we negotiated. We are thrilled to secure an agreement for our members that includes the following wins:
● 4% raises in year one (starting this Fall, 2025)
● 3% raises in year two
● 3% raises in year three
● $95/credit raises in year four (which corresponds to 3.6% for Lecturers I, 3.4% for Lecturers II, and 3.2% for Lecturers III)
● A new retirement match benefit for PT faculty who have taught 24 credits or more starting in July, 2026 - the University will match part-time faculty contributions to their 403(b) up to 2% of the faculty member’s salary
● Increased per diem payment rates to match the full-time faculty per diem rates ($300/day, $200/half day)
● Increased automatic annual stipend payment to $175 for all PT faculty for online training on discrimination prevention
● Retaining benefits won in previous negotiations such as tuition remission, a dedicated Professional Development Fund for part-time faculty, health insurance for part-time faculty who work over 30 hours (now to include all UVM work), promotion bonuses, part-time faculty teaching award, course cancellation payment, and annual appointments for faculty who have taught at least 24 credits
The ratification vote by the part-time faculty membership showed unanimous support for this agreement. We appreciate all members who voted, participated in our pre-bargaining survey, shared input, and all members, part-time and full-time, who attended our bargaining sessions as observers. We have this strong Collective Bargaining Agreement because of the power of our union!
In Solidarity,
Your UA Part-Time Bargaining Team
