My name is Tom Mientka-Proctor, and I started this fall as the AFT organizer servicing United Academics at UVM.  I grew up in England and came over to Vermont about 10 years ago. I've been in community organizing for the past five years, organizing around tenant rights issues. I came into union organizing a little less than a year ago, working with home care workers, boosting their membership by 20 percent in about four months.

This is my first time working in academia organizing, but I'm very excited to represent UA at Vermont’s most prestigious and most renowned university. I'm so proud to be representing the faculty here, and helping you achieve your goals and helping you create a strong and involved membership base.

Other things about me: I'm the announcer for Vermont Green, so when you meet me, you might recognize my voice. I live in Burlington with my wife in the Old North End, and you'll be seeing me zip around campus on my electric cargo bike. Please stay out of my way because it's bloody huge and goes pretty quickly.

Now let’s meet Autumn:

Autumn Chase-Dempsey is a social work graduate student at UVM completing her practicum with United Academics. With a background in community and labor organizing, she is passionate about strengthening relationships and advancing equity across Vermont’s education and labor communities. She looks forward to getting to know the members of UA!
