Anti-discrimination and DEI (Articles 5 and 12): Article 5 and Article 12 on anti-discrimination, diversity, equity and inclusion: UA proposed to expand the many protected categories to also include body size, caste, pregnancy status, and others. UA proposed several other items to support faculty in cases of discrimination, including bringing a social justice/equity perspective in cases resulting from structural racism and other bias. Appointments and Evaluation (Article 14): 14.1: UA proposed substantial changes to titles and ranks for teaching NTT faculty, and a third tier: Teaching Assistant Professor, Teaching Associate Professor, Teaching Professor 14.3: UA’s proposal flips the administration’s approach to review of substandard performance: instead of a punitive framework, we propose the annual review can reward faculty members for outstanding performance and support faculty members with consistent performance deficiencies. We also proposed to clarify procedures of reappointment, promotion, tenure, and peer-review for faculty in different categories; proposed language to prevent job erosion of bargaining unit faculty and early notice of non-reappointment for teaching faculty; and proposed to expand recall rights to all NTT faculty who have served at least 6 years and who are non-reappointed for reasons other than performance. Workload (Article 16): UA proposed to standardize weight allocation of course equivalents (CE) where one CE would equal 12.5% of a full-time, 9 month workload for all full-time faculty regardless of rank, title, or unit (and would be a benchmark on which to calibrate workload other than teaching). Intellectual Property (Article 23): UA proposed to affirm the current Intellectual Property policy and to add protections for faculty ownership of data and representations of data, including, but not limited to, tables, computer files, spreadsheets, databases, and interview transcripts collected or created in the course of the discharge by faculty of their work responsibilities. We also included AI in this proposal.
No Strike (Article 26):
UA proposed to remove this article, as it is redundant at this time with state statute prohibiting a legal strike for public state employees.
The administration brought one counter-proposal on Article 16, which accepted some proposed changes but rejected others.
