This is our second United Academics E-newsletter; we’re getting used to this new platform! February saw two big highlights: The unanimous Burlington City Council resolution calling on the UVM President and Board of Trustees to act with greater transparency, to prioritize including faculty, staff and students per protocols, and to prioritize protecting jobs. The successful Teach-In held by UVM United Against the Cuts to defend the importance of liberal arts education at UVM. The teach-in reached more than 2,000 viewers and prompted story sharing nationwide.
Meanwhile, it’s been more than a year since we began contract bargaining on Feb. 4, 2020. We never imagined how different—and difficult—the process would be this time. Negotiations continue in mediation, and there is the possibility of moving to fact finding next. Stay tuned for a bargaining report from our most recent mediation session. Finally, we want to acknowledge how stressful it can be to return to campus in person with rising COVID cases, while the administration continues to refuse daily updates or to do anything differently at all. We want to remind you that as a result of our impact bargaining, there is a formal process to request modality changes.
