Dear faculty, On December 7, after almost 11 months, our part-time faculty ratified, and the administration approved, a new Collective Bargaining Agreement! We are delighted to share that this new contract not only protects, but expands previously negotiated pay and benefits, with unprecedented pay raises and paid parental leave for part-time faculty. A few highlights of what we won include pay raises for this year, retroactive to the start of Fall 2022, between 7.75%- 8.75%. We also held firm to our goal to win paid parental leave for part-time faculty, and we prevailed! You can review additional details on these and other contract wins in the summary of the new CBA as well as the full draft. United Academics leaders and members, UVM Staff United leaders and members, UVM students, AFT Vermont, Vermont AFL-CIO, and other community members showed up in support. When we declared impasse this fall after months of slow-walking by the administration, this community of solidarity backed us up. The administration saw our collective power and began responding with more reasonable offers starting in October. We want to honor the dedication and effort over many hours and months of my fellow members on the part-time faculty bargaining team: Katherine Elmer, Chief Spokesperson (Plant and Soil Science); Kirsten Isgro (Biomedical and Health Sciences); Brian Tokar (Environmental Studies); Audrey Richardson (Education); and Clyde Stats (Music). This victory and momentum is important as our attention turns toward bargaining a new CBA for full-time faculty.
