How do unions win strong contracts with fair and respectful wages, protection of good benefits, job security, and new improvements? Is it all about having great proposals at the bargaining table? Is it about a tough and steady bargaining team? That is a start. But what it really takes to win a strong union contract is putting enough pressure on the boss and showing the real power of the collective union. United Academics is no exception. In order to WIN, we need to FIGHT. Members need to show up to make it clear that the 8 of us at the bargaining table are there representing over 700 full-time faculty at UVM, and that members are demanding big salary increases, job security and respect for teaching faculty, and more reasonable workloads. We have opportunities to show strength and power at every bargaining session. Also, next week we have a rally on May 1 with fellow UVM unions who are also fighting for fair contracts right now.
