What Is Collective Bargaining?

Collective bargaining offers UVM faculty an effective voice regarding such issues as:

  • shared governance
  • faculty salaries and health benefits
  • student/faculty ratios
  • full-time faculty retention

With collective bargaining, faculty and administration come to the table as equals in an attempt to reach a negotiated written agreement binding on both parties. The agreement is enforceable under law. It sets compensation, conditions of work, and professional standards, which can no longer be changed unilaterally by the administration.
