CONTRACT REFLECTIONS Seven Members of United Academics-AFT/AAUP at the University of Vermont Discuss the New Contract for Full-Time Faculty -- and What Made the Difference in Winning It. What's significant about this contract for UVM faculty? And what made the difference -- skilled negotiations, persuasive research, a united faculty, an administration beset by charges of financial mismanagement and misplaced priorities -- in winning a contract that is among the very best negotiated by university faculty unions in recent years? UA talks with Beth Mintz, Peter Spitzform, Trina Magi, Tony Bradley, Tom Streeter, David Shiman, and Ross Thomson on these questions. Click here to download and read the full document.

UA FULL-TIME MEMBERS OVERWHELMINGLY RATIFY NEW CONTRACT! Almost 50% of all eligible full-time members participated in the ratification vote, returning a clear 214-to-1 vote of confidence and appreciation for the union and its negotiating team. United Academics had reached a tentative contract agreement with the University of Vermont after approximately 150 hours of negotiations spanning eight months, finally settling on mutually-agreeable language on September 4th. Kickoff! On February 6, 2008, United Academics kicked off negotiations for our third contract for full-time faculty at UVM. Speaking to a crowd of students, faculty, staff, and reporters from local press and television stations, UA members talked about the issues of academic freedom, curricular and staffing self-governance, and UVM's ability to attract and retain high-calibur faculty that are important to UA's members, and to the UVM community. Click here for audio, video, pictures, transcripts, and press reports from the event. If you couldn't be there, this is the next best thing. Kudos to all the great speakers at our kickoff event!
